• WA Liberals commit $110m to fit out and run two new thirty-bed wards at Joondalup Health Campus.

• Wards are being built as part of Stage 2 redevelopment but not fitted out.

• Part of the WA Liberals’ plan to fix WA’s broken healthcare system.

The WA Liberals will take immediate action to complete two new thirty-bed wards at Joondalup Health Campus, according to WA Liberal Leader Libby Mettam.

“Just last week, the Productivity Commission highlighted that WA has the worst health system in the country, despite being the richest state in the country,” said Ms Mettam.

“The latest Report on Government Services laid bare WA Labor’s track record of excessive ED wait times, record ambulance ramping, elective surgery delays, and hospital bed shortages – issues directly impacting patient care and safety.

“With WA’s healthcare system in such a disastrous state, and under enormous pressure, it is inexcusable for 60 beds to remain unavailable due to WA Labor’s inaction.

“That is why the WA Liberals will provide real solutions to alleviate pressure on Joondalup Health Campus and improve patient outcomes in Perth’s northern suburbs by fitting out two new wards, as soon as construction of Stage 2 is complete.”

Construction of Stage 2 of Joondalup Health Campus is currently underway, but WA Labor has no plans to fit out two additional wards to future-proof the campus. The WA Liberals will commence work on the fit-out of both wards as soon as Stage 2 construction is complete.

As part of the plan, the WA Liberals will invest $20 million to fit out the two new wards, with an additional $30 million per annum for operational costs, ensuring the two wards are fully staffed and resourced.

“This will allow approx. 4,000 patients to be treated every year at Joondalup Health Campus,” said Ms Mettam.

“These beds will be used across multiple specialties, including emergency department, general medical, and surgical care, ensuring broad benefits for the community.

“This is immediate action to address the healthcare crisis, alleviating pressure on the hospital’s overstretched services, reducing wait times, and improving patient outcomes.

“Instead of prioritising immediate healthcare needs, Labor continues to delay crucial decisions on hospital capacity, leaving Joondalup Health Campus struggling under mounting pressure.

“This is not just an infrastructure issue – it is a failure of Labor’s leadership and planning.”

Michael Dudek, WA Liberal Candidate for Joondalup, said services at Joondalup Health Campus are one of the most commonly raised issues amongst their constituents.

“When I am out in the community, accessing care at Joondalup Health Campus is one of the most commonly raised issues,” said Mr Dudek.

“These wards were planned as part of a future-proofing strategy, but the ‘future’ is already here, with those in Perth’s northern suburbs suffering because of Labor’s mismanagement of the health system.

“Fitting out these wards as soon as construction of Stage 2 is complete will ensure they are fully operational for general medical and surgical use.

“Our Building a Better Future blueprint makes it clear that fixing WA’s health system is a key priority of a future Mettam Liberal Government and this is just another way we will do it.”
