I was born and raised in regional WA, spending most of my childhood in Geraldton. It was an experience that shaped the values and ideals that have made me who I am today.
An experience that taught me if you work hard, be good to others and always put in a little bit of extra effort to help your community, you can lead a good life.
I left home at 17 to pursue a degree in Broadcasting in Perth. I didn’t want to leave home, but I knew I had to make the move if I wanted to pursue new opportunities for my future.
As a regional member of Parliament, one of my driving ambitions is to foster development in our region to the point that leaving town is no longer the only option for the next generation of children.
Before politics, I enjoyed a career in media as a journalist and producer for outlets such as the ABC, Nine and Channel 7 Perth.
Although I have always worked hard, there has been no greater supporter of my endeavours than my husband, Jonathan (Metts).
Together, with our two daughters, Bianca and Sophia, and our chocolate Labrador Charlie, we made our home in Dunsborough and continue to enjoy all the incredible opportunities the South-West Region has to offer.
When you grow up in the regions, you learn quickly that everyone needs to contribute in some way or another to make your community a true home.
I was President of the Dunsborough Yallingup Chamber of Commerce and Industry before entering Parliament and am patron to a number of community groups across the South West.
Many people asked me why I would want to enter the political realm, a place where a thick skin is necessary to survive and thrive.
My answer is simple – I believe I can make a difference. The only inspiration I need is to look at my own children.
I truly believe that Western Australia is the best place in the world to call home. We can only keep it that way if our leaders are willing to stand up and fight for what is in the best interest of our State.
One thing I promise all Western Australians is that I’ll never back down from a fight. I’m here to represent you and fight for the issues that matter to you most.
