The WA Liberal Party is today calling on the Cook Labor Government to return donations from the CFMEU, suspend the union, and commit to not accepting future donations until the union is cleared, and cuts ties with bikie associates.
As allegations increase across different state branches of the CFMEU, WA Liberal Leader, Libby Mettam, says this is a test for Premier Roger Cook.
“Labor Leaders around the country are calling for suspensions of the CFMEU – Roger Cook’s leadership is being put to the test,” Ms Mettam said.
“Roger Cook needs to come out of hiding, he needs to suspend the CFMEU, and he need to return donations from the Union.
“The unions made Roger Cook Premier, he handed the CFMEU a 25% pay rise, and now the CFMEU is his biggest donor.
“This Government needs to stop doing what is right for the unions and start doing what is right for all Western Australians.
“These steps represent the bare minimum to maintain government integrity.” The CFMEU has been allocated positions #2 and #16 on Labor’s Upper House ticket in another backroom deal before next year’s state election.
“If you want to see the CFMEU’s control over Roger Cook, just have a look at who is #2 and #16 on their Upper House ticket,” said Ms Mettam.
“Their ties are undeniable, with the WA Labor Government compelling government contractors to hand the CFMEU a 25% pay rise on their pet METRONET project. “At the same time, they handed WA nurses a 9% pay rise.
“The Cook Labor Government needs to explain to Western Australians why WA Labor has prioritised working for – and taking dirty money from – a dodgy, law-breaking union.”
