Libby Mettam, WA Liberal Leader has today launched the WA Liberals’ blueprint for the future of Western Australia.

Building a Better Future outlines fundamental priorities for a future Mettam Liberal Government, which focuses on the issues which matter most to Western Australia.

These priorities have been developed after engaging with thousands of Western Australians from Broome to Busselton and Kalamunda to Kalgoorlie.

The five key priorities for a Liberal Government, which will guide policy and decisions, are:

• Fixing our Hospitals;
• Cracking Down On Crime;
• Lower Living Costs;
• Building More Homes; and
• Restoring Regional Services

WA Liberal Leader, Libby Mettam, said the WA Liberal team had been listening to Western Australians about what mattered most to them, which formed the five key priorities.

“Building a Better Future is not an exhaustive manifesto – it is the blueprint explaining how a Mettam Liberal Government will make decisions and approach the challenges and opportunities for our state,” Ms Mettam said.

“We are on the same page as Western Australians, we have heard what matters to you, and we will be relentlessly focused on the things which matter to you, no matter where you live.

“We have heard the concerns of our communities, police, doctors, nurses, teachers, small business owners, and industries across the state.

“They feel betrayed by a Labor Government which promised to keep WA strong but is failing to deliver.

“No one mentions METRONET, they just want a government focused on them, and getting the basics right.”

Ms Mettam said the next election was about who had the right priorities to help fix the rolling crises in our hospital systems; to crack down on crime and anti-social behaviour; to help Western Australians battling with the cost of living; to deliver more housing; and to deliver regional WA the services they deserve.

“The next election gives Western Australians a clear choice,” Ms Mettam said.

“On one hand, there is the second decade of a tired, incompetent Labor Government who thinks you’re an idiot for wanting a tax cut, whose idea of cost-of-living relief is taxpayer funded tickets to the zoo, who invests more in ports than hospitals, and who are obsessed with their pet project.

“Or a Liberal team focused on the issues that matter to you, who supports your aspirations, and who gets the basics right.

“Our priority is to deliver a health system where you can be confident you will get the treatment you need, when you need it, and where the best and brightest healthcare professionals want to work.

That commitment includes building the Women and Babies Hospital at QEII, as is world-best practice and the advice of WA’s own clinicians, as well as guaranteeing you will not be waiting longer than medically necessary for elective surgery.

“Our priority is taking urgent action to address out-of-control violent crime and introduce measures to give WA Police the support they need to make our communities safe again,” said Ms Mettam.

“Our priority is delivering meaningful reform, like cutting stamp duty, to address cost-of-living pressures, remove the roadblocks to build more homes and reduce the jobs tax burden.

“WA has lived through the biggest boom in our state’s history, it shouldn’t feel like Government is held together by sticky tape.

“A WA Liberal Government will restore good government, and the quality services Western Australians rightfully expect, and deserve, in a state with our prosperity.

“We will govern in the best interests of the people of Western Australia to ensure our communities, our children, and grandchildren can enjoy the benefits of our great wealth and opportunities.

“The WA Liberal team has a plan for this state, and it starts with fixing Labor’s mess and focusing on the right priorities.”
